The Weirs Times and Tourist's Gazette was first published in 1883 by Matthew H. Calvert when it was Calvert's Weirs Times and Tourist Gazette. He published the paper until his death in 1902.

In 1992 The Weirs Times was resurrected by Publisher Bob Lawton who wanted a weekly publication that would focus on the grand history of not only the Lakes Region but the entire state of New Hampshire.

Using the original masthead from Matthew Calvert's publication, as well as the map of Lake Winnipesaukee which occupied the center spread of the original paper, the first editon of the new Weirs Times hit the stands with 5,000 copies in June of 1992. Distribution was focused on the towns around Lake Winnipesaukee.

Over the years the Weirs Times has developed a bigger and bigger following. Its feature-based stories about New Hampshire personalities and businesses as well as in-depth and entertaining pieces about the fascinating history of New Hampshire have captured a wider audience. Its stable of diverse in-house columnists covers a wide range of subjects including history, politics, sports, home renovation and just plain living here in the Granite State.

Today The Weirs Times is a free, weekly publication with a circulation of 30,000 with readership from Littleton to Manchester and Portsmouth to Londonderry. In 2006 the Weirs Times has added to its distribution staff to cover the demand from readers in other areas of the state.
